RENCE: Ways to Go

music video

“I GOT A WAYS TO GO BEFORE I GET THERE
BUT ONE DAY IM’MA GET THERE”

Inspired by the concept of “getting there” in the lyrics of RENCE’s song Ways to Go, the treatment I wrote focused on the concept of travel, using the imagery of both a car and levitation to depict arriving at a destination. We open on RENCE finishing his shift at a diner, and as he drives on we enter almost a dreamlike state, and as he passes by a TV store we juxtapose his current self with his famous alter-ego. As he travels, he relinquishes control of the vehicle, later finding himself levitating and poetically referring to the adage, “shoot for the moon.”

This music video explores the struggle of moving onwards and upwards but being uncertain of how or when this will happen. It can be as terrifying as letting go of the wheel or as magical by being pulled up by an unseen force, but ultimately means trusting in the journey.
