Joseph Yao is a narrative, commercial, and music video director + cinematographer based in Los Angeles.
Joseph Yao is an award-winning second generation Taiwanese-American writer, director, and cinematographer based in Los Angeles, CA. He is a graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts Production program, whose work can be found on HBO, Gunpowder & Sky’s DUST, and Vevo. He has directed or shot music videos with with artists like FINNEAS, RENCE, and MEG & DIA, and is well versed with collaborating with companies to create work that beautifully communicates a company or organization’s mission statement and creed as seen in his work for ALABASTER or FIDM. His work has won Grand Jury and Audience Awards at the Seattle International Film Festival and Filmland, and has screened at LA Shorts, NFFTY, the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, the New York Shorts International Film Festival, the Hong Kong Arthouse Film Festival, and Dances with Films. He is also currently a participant of the 2023 ASC Vision Program. With every project he works on, whether it be directing or cinematography, he strives to tell beautiful stories that move audiences.
